Oscar Pan is an award-winning composer for the screen and concert stage. Being a travel enthusiast and arts fanatic, he is always drawn to cross-cultural collaborations and new sounds that speak to our living world.
His recent works include the score to Sonnet Crown for NYC (2021), a poetic documentary commissioned by and played at The Shed in New York City; the score to HÓNG (2022), a Chinese experimental fashion film streamed on the FNL Network; the score to Motherland (2023), an LGBTQ short nominated for Best Short Live Action Score at Hollywood Music in Media Awards; the score to I Am Illegal (2023), a Moroccan LGBTQ documentary short premiered at the 2023 Outfest LA Film Festival; and Le Train (2023), a quartet for woodwinds and piano that received the Merit Awards in the National Young Composer Competition at the Tribeca New Music Festival. Currently, Oscar is working alongside the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, Michael Abels. He is also working on an original score to Cut Your Wings and Fly (2024), an experimental dance film that speaks about child abuse.
Oscar studied music composition with a specialization in screen scoring at New York University (BM 2021). In 2019, he had the opportunity to study composition in Paris with one of Messiaen’s students, Michel Merlet, at L’École Normale de Musique de Paris, and learn avant-garde electroacoustic music at IRCAM. He graduated from Columbia College Chicago with an MFA in Music Composition for the Screen in May 2023.
