He is deeply invested in musical structure as a crucible to intensify the affective experience of the listener. He has received numerous national and international awards, as well as commissions from the Fromm Music Foundation, Ying Quartet, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Barlow Endowment, Lyris Quartet, and Dale Warland Singers, among others. His music has been performed by the Swedish Radio Symphony, Hungarian Radio Orchestra, Louisville Orchestra, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Kremlin Chamber Orchestra, Filharmonia de Stat “Transilvania”, Winnipeg, Omaha, Richmond, Memphis, and Oakland East Bay Symphonies, Jacaranda, the Doric Quartet; and by soloists including Markus Pawlik, James Dunham, Martin Chalifour, Vijay Gupta, Peabody Southwell, and Ingeborg Danz. ARKHIPOV, an opera he composed with librettist Stephanie Fleischmann, was recently presented by Jacaranda, conducted by Daniela Candillari, directed by Elkhanah Pulitzer, and featuring Edward Parks, David Leigh, Katharine Goeldner, Daniel Moody, Carlos Santelli, Todd Strange, Max Zander, Dominic Delzompo, Joel Balzun, Michael Dunlap, and J.Ed Ariza.
